Mrs. Myrle Dorothy Hanks

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Myrle Dorothy Hanks (Granny), age 86, on February 10, 2025 in Pensacola, Florida. Originally from Uriah, Alabama, she spent most of her life in Bratt, Florida. A devoted member of Bratt First Baptist Church, she lived her life rooted in faith and kindness. Her gentle spirit and warm, generous heart touched everyone she met. Granny found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid reader and cherished her time in book club, engaging in lively discussions and sharing her thoughts with friends. Gardening and sitting on the porch were a peaceful pastime that brought beauty to her days. Traveling to the Tennessee mountains with family created some of her fondest memories—she loved the fresh mountain air, the scenery, and the special moments spent with her loved ones. A NASCAR fan through and through, she followed the sport with passion, always rooting enthusiastically for her favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. Her faith was constantly renewed through Gospel music. Her love for singing in the church choir allowed her to share her faith in a way that brought comfort and joy to others and the uplifting tunes of Bill and Gloria Gaither were among her favorites, as their music brought peace and light to her heart. She also had a gift for cooking and preparing meals that were as delicious as they were comforting. Her kitchen was a gathering place, filled with the smell of home-cooked meals and the sound of laughter. Family was the absolute center of Granny’s world. She was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, finding immense joy in the lives and accomplishments of her children and their families. Every family gathering was a celebration of love, and she cherished these moments, big or small, with all her heart. She had a unique gift for making people feel special. Always quick with a smile and a laugh, she was a woman of great warmth, empathy, and understanding. Her hugs were legendary—comforting and full of love—and her winsome nature drew people to her wherever she went. Above all else, she loved everyone she met without judgment, always offering kindness, acceptance, and encouragement. Though she has left this world, her legacy of love, faith, and compassion will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was a beautiful example of how love can ripple outward, leaving behind memories that will be treasured forever. Granny will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her spirit will continue to guide us and inspire us to live with love and empathy, just as she did. Myrle is preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Zelma Harrison Harris; husband, Howard Hanks; two brothers, Charles Harris and Clint Harris She is survived by a son, Mark (Delyn) Hanks of Pace, Florida; two daughters, Donna (Wayne) Gunn of Bratt, Florida and Pam (Mike) Mullen of Pensacola, Florida; four grandchildren, Ryan Hanks, Haley Hendry, Taylor Riley and Kaitlyn Strehl; 6 great-grandchildren, Aryan, Harper, Ruby, Conner, Jase, and Cooper. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Bratt First Baptist Church. with Reverend Tim Hawsey officiating. A committal service will be held at 2:00 PM on February 19, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Barrancas National Cemetery. A procession will be held from Olive Baptist Church (Warrington Campus) 103 Winthrop Avenue, Pensacola, Florida 32507 Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC. Pallbearers will be Ryan Hanks, Chaz Riley, Austin Strehl, Sean Hendry Rick Anderson, Steve Hanks and Rick Amerson. Petty Funeral Homes, LLC. entrusted with all arrangements.
