Mr Lawrence Earvin Heathcock

Mr. Lawrence Earvin Heathcock, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Perdido, Alabama, he devoted his life to his faith, his family, and his community, leaving behind a legacy of service, integrity, and unwavering love. Mr. Heathcock was a man of deep faith and commitment. He found great joy in preaching and sharing the Word of God while faithfully serving as a worship leader at church for many years. Worship was not simply something he attended—it was the foundation of his life. Through his preaching, singing, and fellowship, he encouraged and uplifted countless individuals. A skilled craftsman, Mr. Heathcock had a lifelong passion for welding and building. He proudly served as a welding instructor at Jefferson Davis Community College, where he mentored and trained many students who went on to build successful careers of their own. He approached his work with excellence and patience, taking pride not only in the craft itself but in investing in the lives of those he taught. He enjoyed staying active and productive, whether working on projects, tending to his garden, or traveling with his beloved wife. He especially cherished family gatherings and trips, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Above all, family was the center of his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love and guidance shaped the lives of many. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Chesley Heathcock and Lavada Levins Heathcock Fretwell; his brothers, Leonard Heathcock, Curtis Heathcock, and Harold Fretwell; his sisters, Lois Marie Spence and Mary Viola Heathcock Hicks; as well as ten step-siblings. He is survived by his wife of seventy-two years, Margie Barry Heathcock of Perdido, Alabama; daughters, Brenda Heathcock Mustin of Perdido, Alabama, and Shelia Heathcock McDowell (Darrell) of Perdido, Alabama; sister, Helen Stewart of Perdido, Alabama; three grandchildren, Rachel Hadley, Matthew Hayles, and Marisa Simpson; two step-grandchildren, Dara McDowell Plant and Amber Bartley; five great-grandchildren, Alexis Hayles, Miya Hayles, Emma-Claire Simpson, Triston Hadley, and Easton Hadley; and four step-great-grandchildren, Savanah Bartley, Karson Plant, Lilly Bartley, and Mason Plant. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Fretwell Tabernacle Holiness Church with Reverend Alton Lister and Sister Helen Stewart officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Petty Funeral Homes, LLC. Burial will follow at Perdido Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Spence, Jesse Seale, Scott Lowe, Robbie Hayles, Mickey Mustin, John Barry, Mike Barry, and David Barry. Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Hicks, Charles Bray, Ed Barry, Bill Barry, Danny Ray Taylor, Frank Boatwright, and David Gibbs. Mr. Heathcock will be remembered as a faithful servant of God, a dedicated educator, a hardworking craftsman, and a loving patriarch. His life was marked by humility, strength, and steadfast devotion to those he loved. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of faith, hard work, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
