Ms. Emma Ruth Madison Hogan

Ms. Emma Ruth Madison Hogan, age 82, formerly of Atmore, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Emma Ruth was born on November 2, 1943, in Uriah, Alabama, to the late John D. Madison and Rincy M. Woods Madison. She spent most of her life in Pensacola, Florida. She retired with over 30 years of Civil Service, ending her career with the closing of NADEP at NAS Pensacola. Emma Ruth was proud of her Indian heritage and treasured the opportunity to share a piece of her heritage with others. She continued the tradition of finger weaving by sharing her skill with others and took great gratification in the beautiful belts she created for them. Her passion for playing sports brought her enjoyment for many years, as did traveling. However, her greatest joy in life was loving and caring for her family and extended family. She treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will live on in their hearts forever. Emma Ruth accepted the Lord as her Savior and sought to live her life in a way that reflected the qualities described in Galatians 5:22–23 through the way she loved and cared for others. She is survived by her two daughters, Sandy (Chris) Creverling of Bratt, Florida, and Sharon Elliott of Perdido Key, Florida; her grandchildren, Danielle Bloodworth, Erin Elliott, Andrew Elliott, Alex Elliott, and Emily Creverling; great-grandchildren, Lucas Bloodworth, Ruby Bloodworth, Eva Madison, and Emma Elliott (Emma Ruth’s namesake); and her brother, Billy Conn Madison (Shirley) of Atmore, Alabama, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish her memory. In addition to her parents, Emma Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Madison and Jack Madison. Pallbearers will be Herbert Brooks, Jack Madison, Jason Bloodworth, Andrew Elliott, Alex Elliott, and Chris Creverling. Honorary pallbearer will be Billy Conn Madison. The family wishes to express their gratitude to those who helped in her care. A special thank you is extended to Martin In-Home Care, especially Melissa Herrera, who gave willingly and lovingly of herself to their mother and grandmother. The family would also like to thank West Florida Hospital, especially the CCU, for the loving care provided during her hospital stay. The family is thankful to all those who prayed for Emma Ruth. They were praying for a miracle, and they received it as she passed peacefully and did not experience any more pain. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Petty Funeral Home, with Pastor Doug Odom and Pastor Gary Dickman officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. until the service begins at 2:00 p.m. Emma Ruth’s family remembers the many wonderful qualities she possessed, but perhaps none more than the love and kindness she showed to every person she met. She never treated anyone poorly, but instead chose kindness and willingly offered forgiveness. Her life beautifully reflected the words of Ephesians 4:32: “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.” May we all carry on Emma Ruth’s legacy by treating others with the same love, kindness, and grace that she so freely gave to those around her.
